questions you've asked -
CAN YOU DESIGN SOMETHING FOR ME, BUT THEN I GET IT TATTOOED BY SOMEONE ELSE ?
Really surprisingly, I get asked this every single week. I can't help but get upset, I know it's a compliment that someone wants my art - but my job is to tattoo, my own artwork. So for me to design it and send it to you, would mean that I am essentially out of work, at my own doing. You will be able to source plenty of commission based artists that you can request a drawing from, be prepared to pay for it and be prepared for your tattoo artist to change it if they need to. Not every artist (who doesn't tattoo) knows what will translate to skin. This is only to be determined by your tattoo artist.
In short, no I do not .
I do however accept business commission pieces, example of these business logo, shirt designs, banners etc etc. This is not free.
WHAT INK DO YOU USE, IS IT VEGAN?
I use Dynamic black, to my knowledge and as far as I can research it is vegan.
If you find out that this is not correct, please contact me immediately !
I CAN'T FIND THE ADDRESS FOR THE STUDIO YOU WORK AT?
There is a reason for this, I only send out the address once a deposit is secured.
We are located in a private studio, to offer an exclusive studio environment.
It is a safe space and we pride ourselves on making everyone feel at home and comfortable.
HOW MUCH IS A DEPOSIT AND WHY DO I HAVE TO I SEND IT?
DO I GET IT BACK IF I CANCEL MY APPOINTMENT?
Deposits are $150 per booking, this includes a non deductible $50 drawing fee.
The drawing fee does not mean you receive the drawing in digital or paper form.
The $100 comes off the total price of the piece you are quoted for.
The deposit is non-refundable, this can be discussed at my (Emily Weber's) discretion only. The deposit is security for me that you will show up for your appointment, if you decide to cancel your booking - I essentially lose more than you just not turning up. I waste my time drawing, lose the work/pay and have the risk of not being able to fill the appointment space.
Whilst this might come across harsh or strict, it is not my intention - as I mention it’s to provide myself security and to have some seriousness in holding appointments, in an industry that is notorious for being unpredictable.
DO YOU CHARGE HOURLY OR PER PIECE?
I charge per piece (not hourly) and per day, there is a lot of decision making that goes into quoting for a piece. I do not give out quotes publicly or outside my booking process.
My minimum is $180 and my max is currently $1200 (one day session).
So for example, if your piece is a medium sized piece - it'll most likely be in the middle of that. But as I said, every quote is different and more than size goes into quoting the piece, but just to give you a rough idea.
I EMAILED BUT I NEVER GOT A REPLY!
I'm so sorry about that, sometimes emails get lost!
Because I open them up every few months, there's an influx of emails.
We try to respond to everyone even when I can no longer fit another booking into my schedule. There is always the option to send through an enquiry via my cancellation list.
** Edit: 2nd April 2019
I am being more particular about what ideas that I am taking on prior to my baby arriving due to the limited spots that I have available :)
WHAT DAYS DO YOU WORK, I REALLY WANT TO GET IN ON A SATURDAY!
I work Sunday - Thursday, sometimes I work on Friday/saturday but they are my family day and time I get to spend with my two dogs.
WHAT FORM OF PAYMENT DO I BRING TO MY APPOINTMENT?
CASH OR CARD?
I accept both forms of payment!
Please always keep in mind that the quote given is a rough estimate and it is always advisable to bring extra as the price may vary.
WILL YOU TATTOO OVER SCARS?
I personally cover up scars nearly every week!
There are definitely some scars that will handle being tattooed differently to others, especially if the skin is really thin or keloid.
I usually ask for a photo of the placement area before accepting.
If I don't think the scars can be tattooed over, tattooing near them/in that area can still compliment the spot.
Best way to cover scars is when they are very very healed, when they are white in colour! (Pending your skin tone as well, obviously)
DO YOU TATTOO ANYONE UNDER 18?
Nope! I personally don't tattoo anyone under the age of 18.
Some tattooers accept a statutory declaration signed by a Justice of the peace and a parent.
I will however tattoo a client on their 18th birthday!
Proof of age is always requested at the booking.
DO YOU DO COVER UPS?
Nope, I don't !
I don't believe I can personally do justice to that idea.
What are your options? Laser removal - this is costly but very much worth it.
A lot of tattooers will recommend this as it allows for so so many more options.
MJ Driver is whom I suggest.
